Colin is a seasoned healthcare strategy and startup consultant with experience driving startups to success; he is the founding partner of Triple Canopy Advisors LLC healthcare strategy consulting firm as well as the founder of Petri Dish, a medical software development company. He holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, a Masters from Stanford University, and received his emergency medical training at UCLA medical.
Daniel R. Karlin, MD, MA
Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer
Dan is the clinical leader of the Column Health organization. He is board certified in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and informatics with a long history of working at the intersection of healthcare and technology. In the neuropharmaceutical sector he focuses on early stage drug development with a focus on novel data and analysis driven strategies, while in academic medicine he continues to provide clinical care, and teach clinical skills and quality improvement while helping to run a residency training program. He has invented and contributed to the creation of several medical devices.
Chief Marketing Officer
Jim is a passionate brand builder and marketing executive who has helped grow several household name brands during his career. Jim applies strategic frameworks to drive results through best-in-class marketing, disciplined product innovation, operations excellence, and strong customer relationships. Jim’s diverse career includes working for Kraft Heinz, the Olympics and the World Cup as well as entrepreneurial experience with developing multiple startup businesses, where he managed the store development process for a multi-site, multi-state company. Jim has created a non-profit organization, has an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and lives in Chicago with his wife Laura and their dogs Taz and Maxwell.
Barbara Herbert, MD
Dr. Barbara Herbert is an expert in the field of Addiction Medicine with over thirty years of caring for patients, teaching and mentoring physicians, and leading policy and regulatory organizations. She has a passion for treating new mothers with Substance Use Disorder and has been an outspoken advocate for the reduction of stigma associated with Mental Illness. Dr. Barbara Herbert is the immediate past president of the Massachusetts Society of Addiction Medicine (MSAM). She graduated from State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a post doc fellowship at Harvard University.
Biruh Mezgebu studied at Bridgewater State University, where he majored in Economics and Business. Biruh is deeply passionate about mental health which led him to work as a counselor for two years and later as a program director for Vinfen. He played a very important role by supervising counselors to ensure that contract specifications, and program regulations were followed. He currently enjoys making a difference with Column Health which facilitates full recovery for mental illness, and substance abuse.
VP of Technology
Matt is a software, cybersecurity, and IT professional with over 20 years of technology experience. He has lead complex and healthcare focused engagements in both the private sector and within government agencies. Matt has provided technical management and strategic planning on a several large scale, software and systems development projects.
Neeraj Rastogi, MD
Dr. Rastogi is a certified physician for the maintenance and detoxification treatment of opioid addiction in accordance with the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 by the SAMHSA/CSAT. He obtained his medical education from King George's Medical College and completed dual fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from Boston Medical Center and University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has authored many publications and book chapters. At Column Health, Dr. Rastogi focuses upon patients’ concerns to formulate an individual treatment plan and provide unconditional 'Strength / Stability / Support' in transitioning back to their families. The goal he shares with fellow physicians and coworkers is to provide medication assisted addiction treatment with an emphasis on 'Harm Reduction.'
Clinic Experience Supervisor
Amanda graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Roger Williams University. Previous to joining the Column Health team, she spent several years as a Behavior Therapist working with children on the autism spectrum. Amanda believes that the most fulfilling component of working in the mental health industry is being a part of a team that allows individuals to become their best selves.
Director of Culture
Dr. Craig Smith is an American media artist and theorist whose art and research focuses on the process, aesthetics, and ethics of human‐to‐human interactivity and contemporary visual culture. Craig has held teaching, research, and global fellowship positions at numerous universities and colleges and joined the University of Florida as a senior faculty member. His exhibitions of photography, live sound performances, lectures, and other art media have been featured at an international range of museums, galleries, art fairs, athletic facilities, and financial organizations including the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., PS1MOMA Contemporary Art Institute in New York, The Tate Modern in London, The George Eastman House in Rochester, the Hudson River Museum, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
John Przybylski, MD
Dr. Przybylski attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin, afterwards spending 5 years in the US Navy and specializing in internal medicine. Following his service, Dr. Przybylski has continued practicing medicine at the Waltham‐Weston Hospital, as well as the Lahey Clinic Medical Center. His philosophy of care focuses on integrative, personalized care that treats the whole person in the most effective way.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Ashley Tobey is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received a masters of science in nursing from Northeastern University and also holds bachelor degrees in nursing and public relations. Her clinical experience ranges from delivering emergency and critical care to practicing community mental health outreach. Ashley embraces a patient-centered recovery model that empowers individuals to access their inner resources and strengths to achieve well being.
Deirdre Calvert, LICSW
Psychotherapy Team Lead
Deirdre comes to Column Health with over 20 years experience in treating Dual Disorders. Deirdre received her Masters in Social Work from Boston University in 1995 and began her career working with pregnant women contending with addiction. From there she transitioned to managing the largest Methadone Clinic in New England, serving over 970 persons a day. In addition, Deirdre was the Director of Residential Services for a private PACT team, serving patients with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness and Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Dependency.
From these experiences, Deirdre was able to understand and effectively treat the complex issues facing patients struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. Deirdre holds a clinical view that encompasses a strong patient centered focus, while understanding the need for individual contoured treatment. Deirdre is committed to utilizing a non-confrontational whole person approach, focusing on helping patients return to educational, vocational, and family roles that had been lost secondary to their disease.
Lindsey joined the Column Health team as a psychotherapist after attending Caldwell University in New Jersey, where she received her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Art Therapy. Her clinical background includes assisting individuals with experiences ranging from incarceration to brain injury, and she embraces a strengths-based, holistic, and creative approach to care. She believes in the process of forming a safe space for healing that is unique to the individual, based on a foundation of trust, collaboration, and positivity. Outside of her role at Column Health, Lindsey is passionate about hiking, good lattes, and the Boston Red Sox.
Strategic Development Director
Gurteg studied Neuroscience and Psychology at Boston University. He took his passion for mental health, coupled it with his growing interest in business operations, and began working at a startup focused on measuring and managing stress through wearable devices. Now, he joins the Column Health team with the purpose of disrupting the delivery of behavioral treatment and expanding its impact.
David Marcovitz, MD
Dr. Marcovitz completed his medical school training at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN, and his psychiatric residency at Harvard Medical School in the Massachusetts General Hospital‐McLean Hospital program. He is currently completing his addiction psychiatry fellowship in the same system.

Jessie joined our team as a Clinic Experience Coordinator after spending a few years in the veterinary field. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelors in Science and is excited to transition into the field of mental health and addiction treatment.
Anthony Schlaff, MD
Dr. Schlaff is the Director of the Public Health Program and Professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He received a BA in History from Yale University, an MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He trained in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and in Preventive Medicine at Carney Hospital in Boston and is board certified in both specialties. His clinic practice now focuses on addiction medicine and he works at Column Health in Arlington and Brighton. Prior to assuming his current position at Tufts, he has worked as a medical director and director of quality improvement in several community health center networks and has directed several community health initiatives in Boston and New York. He is a past president of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.
James earned his Masters in Social Work from Simmons College. Throughout his career, he has provided community-based support to adults experiencing mental illness and has lead both individual and group psychotherapy with patients recovering from substance use disorder. James believes that all people have a unique and valuable story to tell, and that telling these stories can help accelerate the path to recovery.
Client Services Representative
Katy received her Bachelors of Science from Bridgewater State University in Psychology and worked previously as a transitional coordinator for urban adolescent teens struggling with mental illness. Katy has experience with case management specifically related to the treatment of substance abuse and is passionate about helping others overcome their disease. In Katy's free time she enjoys rugby, going to the gym and yoga.
Talent and Culture Director
Throughout her career in Human Resources, Brittany worked in a variety of roles and environments including manufacturing, public education, and higher education. She earned a bachelor's degree from New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, and holds a SHRM-SCP designation. Brittany's main focus and passion in HR stems from her love of people and meaningful interactions that leave lasting impressions. Brittany is thrilled to be working with such a diverse and dedicated staff at Column Health, and is proud to have an impact on the mental health and substance abuse within the various communities that we serve. When she's not working, Brittany enjoys staying active through activities like kayaking, hiking, snowboarding and roller derby.
Clinic Experience Representative
Nataly transitioned her career to mental health and addiction medicine to help fight the stigma associated with mental illness and is passionate about driving change to help those around her. She is studying at Salem State University with majors in Biology and Healthcare Studies and a minor in English. Nataly studied at the Tufts Medical University Clare Moore Lab, concentrating on DNA cells with mRNA mutations. She has worked in an Oncology/Hematology clinic, taught ESL classes (English as a Second Language) and currently teaches Bible school at Christian Ministry Monte de Zion. In her free time, Nataly enjoys spending time her young daughter, camping, drawing, and finding new adventures with her friends and family.
Ryan Carbone, LCSW
Ryan received his Masters in Social Work from Simmons College in 2016. Prior to joining Column Health, Ryan worked with both children and families in a variety of clinical contexts, and worked most recently as a counselor at an academic non-profit serving the Greater Boston area. Ryan believes deeply in the capacities of his clients, and works collaboratively with each of them to create individualized and strength based plans that will put them on the path to success. Outside of his role at Column Health, Ryan enjoys exercise, music, and spending time with family and friends.
Chief of Staff and General Counsel
Sue is an attorney and policy specialist who has won major advocacy victories and hundreds of cases through managing strategic planning, research, analysis, advocacy communications development/delivery, and liaison tasks. Her background also includes enhancing projects, communications, and processes as a management consultant and corporate liaison. Driven to advance initiatives that improve outcomes for individuals and communities, Sue is happy to serve Column Health's strong team and patients as the Chief of Staff and General Counsel.
Clinic Experience Coordinator
Rachelle is a part of the Column Health team as a Clinical Experience Coordinator. She studied Psychology and Biology at Roger Williams University where she focused on positive behavioral therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and studied abroad in Jamaica to help spread Autism awareness. After graduation, Rachelle interned at Beverly Hospital in the Partial Hospitalization Program where she learned about addiction treatment and substance abuse recovery. She hopes to continue her education in the mental health and research field. Rachelle is excited and passionate about working with others to achieve goals of wellness and understanding.
Kayla Gottlieb, LCSW
Kayla joined the Column Health team as a psychotherapist after moving to the Boston area from new York, where she attended and received her Masters in Social Work at Yeshiva University. Kayla has experience working in community-based facilities serving people of all ages and backgrounds in therapy, case management, community outreach and community programs.
Community Outreach Coordinator
Jessica joined Column Health in a community outreach role and as a clinic experience representative. She graduated from Curry College's Nursing School and has been in the healthcare field for over 10 years. Jessica has diverse experience with patients from the emergency room to primary care and cardiology practices and most recently at Walden Behavioral Care as an admissions intake coordinator for mental health. She is extremely passionate about substance abuse and finding ways to help address the current opioid epidemic. When not working, she is taking care of her two young, energetic sons! She also loves going to the beach, reading, and her daily dose of milk and cookies.
Laurel "Maya" Yonika
Clinic Experience Representative
Maya received her BA in anthropology from University of Massachusetts Boston. She is an artist, Kundalini Yoga teacher, and author of the five-star book, ‘No Mud, No Lotus.’ Maya is also a survivor of over a decade of drug and alcohol addiction. She is passionate about expanding our understanding of the nature of addiction and she is delighted to be part of the Column Health team that is receptive to honoring diversity between the needs of individuals.
Elaine holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William James College. She originally joined Column Health as a Clinic Experience Representative while she continued furthering her education and transitioned to a Psychotherapist role. Elaine has experience conducting individual and group therapy with varying ages and diagnoses, with a specialty in substance abuse treatment, eating disorders, depression, and trauma. Her theoretical orientation pulls from strength based and person-centered therapies and she strives to collaborate with her patients to create individualized treatment goals that fit with her patient’s strengths and lifestyles. In her free time, she enjoys reading mystery novels and exploring different things to do around Boston.

Brittany joined the Column Health team as one of our Clinic Experience Representatives. She studied Psychology at Middlesex Community College, before joining our team she was working with patients who suffered from chronic pain. Brittany plans to continue her education in mental health and eventually become a Psychiatric Nurse. She is very passionate about helping those in need and making a difference. Outside of Column Health, Brittany enjoys going to the movies and spending time with her friends and family.

Alex studied Philosophy at Clark University before earning his Master's in Business Administration from the University at Albany (SUNY Albany). He joined Column Health in order to help make a difference in the lives of patients struggling with mental illness and to help educate and raise awareness on the many misconceptions surrounding substance use disorders.
